Home Products Gears Pinion Shafts. When the number of teeth required to achieve a given ratio becomes so small that the gear cannot have a bore, it is necessary to use a pinion shaft.

Research & Analyze

The pinion shaft is either coupled directly or via a clutch to the output shaft of a slow-speed synchronous motor, or to the output shaft of a motor-driven helical or double helical gear reducer. In some mills, electrical thyristors and/or DC motors are used to give variable speed control.

Sketch & Optimizing

The pinion gear can also be positioned in the centre to obtain longer steering rod travel. Pinion gear located outside the vehicle centre (on the left on left-hand drive and on the right on right-hand drive) and tie rod joints screwed into the sides of the steering rack
